I grew up with some of the best seafood in the world coming from Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay. But that was back in the 1970s and 80s. Boy do I miss blue crabs. Boy do I miss catching those blue crabs by the bushel and gorging myself on them all day. I also remember the oysters from the bay. An oyster that, in my wurst-opinion, might have been one of the best tasting in the world due to the Bays unique brackish waters. It’s been many years since I’ve enjoyed oysters from the Chesapeake and I’ve read that for the past many years they are scarce, expensive, poisoned, etc., due, obviously, to over fishing–the Bay’s plague, don’t you know. That said, every now and then, a couple times a year, I go the Atlantic coast of France and suddenly the world, the universe, the ground below my feet… is whole again. There’s nothing like sitting at a seafood restaurant in France, overlooking oyster beds galore, and having a slurp.
Slurp on.
